The St. Joseph Worker Program is grounded in 4 Core Values:
To further the faith journey of every volunteer, St. Joseph Workers participate in sharing of the heart, theological reflection, retreats, spiritual direction, and communal prayer-all mentored in the spirit of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Community with Simplicity
St. Joseph Workers live in an intentional community in one of Philadelphia's inner-city neighborhoods. Volunteers receive a small monthly stipend as they attempt to live in solidarity with their neighbors.
St. Joseph Workers serve in ministries with those who are materially poor in the areas of education, advocacy, social services, community organizing, parish ministry, and a variety of others. They also seek to engage in justice issues on both local and global levels.
St. Joseph Workers are encouraged to develop their own styles of leadership which are cultivated through building relationships, taking initiative, exploring career development, and fostering intentional conversations (one-to-ones).
